Installation

Installing the APK

  1. Tap Download above and let the cipher.apk file finish downloading.
  2. When prompted, allow installing apps from your browser (Settings → Apps → Special access → Install unknown apps).
  3. Open the downloaded cipher.apk and tap Install.
  4. Launch Cipher, create an account with a username and password, and start messaging.

Cipher will also be published on the Google Play Store — this direct download is for early access.

iPhone & iPad

Install on iPhone

A native iOS app is on the way. Until then, Cipher runs as a home-screen web app — same end-to-end encryption, right from Safari.

  1. Open the Cipher web app in Safari on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap the Share button (the square with an up arrow) in the toolbar.
  3. Choose Add to Home Screen, then Add.
  4. Launch Cipher from your home screen — it opens full-screen like a native app.

No account needed to install

Download and install without a store or Google account. You'll create a Cipher username inside the app.

The APK is signed and delivered over HTTPS straight from cipher.arcanesystems.co.uk — no third-party mirror.

iPhone & desktop

No native iOS/Mac app yet — use the web app and “Add to Home Screen” on iPhone for a full-screen, encrypted client.
